About Joani Blank

Joani's career started with a focus on public health, and she shifted towards an emphasis on family planning when she moved to the Bay Area in 1971. She became one of the first volunteers at San Francisco Sex Information, and trained and worked in the Sex Counseling Program at UCSF for several years. In 1975, she founded Down There Press, and two years later founded Good Vibrations as one of the first women-friendly sex shops in the United States. Over the past three decades, Joani has written more than a dozen books on sex, sexuality and talking to your kids about sex. In 2008, the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality granted Joani an honorary Doctor of Arts degree for her more than 30 years of work in the field.
